b. 1923, Crawford, Mississippi, d. December 28, 1973, Macon, Mississippi. In the mid-60s, Macon was brought briefly to public attention by his cousin Big Joe Williams. Although 20 years younger than Williams, he performed a remarkably archaic style of blues, featuring simple, insistently rhythmic guitar, often without chord changes, and mode packed vocals that often recalled the field holler. After the trip north with Williams that resulted in his too few recordings, Macon returned home to undeserved obscurity until his death.
