Bo Carter is one of the finest prewar acoustic blues men not to have been "rediscovered" in the folk and blues boom of the 1960s. This disc collects 20 of the artist's more notable tracks, stretching from the late '20s to the '40s. Carter was a fine guitar player, utilizing many different tunings to create a distinctive guitar style. Vocally, Carter is powerful, but it's arguably his guitar playing that makes him stand out from the host of other prewar blues men. Bo Carter's Advice collects some of the more interesting songs of Carter's output (which is considerable), and it's a lot of fun to listen to, especially powerful songs like "Old Devil" and even novelty numbers such as "Beans." Any fan of Bo Carter will find this a necessary purchase. ~ Thomas Ward
