A compilation of the work of Henry Thomas, who recorded just 23 surviving sides between 1927-1929, King of the Blues, Vol. 10 comes across as a wholly unnecessary release, and anyone interested in Thomas' work would be far better-suited opting for Yazoo's Texas Worried Blues, which contains everything Thomas recorded in a sensible order. There's nothing essentially wrong with this release, but its place on the market is open to question. There are no revelatory liner notes, nor has the sound quality (which is pretty poor on most of the tracks) been improved at all. Of course, as a budget offering it's worth considering, but any serious fan of Thomas would be far better-served with Yazoo's definitive release. ~ Thomas Ward
