... Blues, Rare and Well Done
This is a compilation of some of the first recordings of soon-to-be Chcago stalwarts like Little Walter,("I Just Keep Lovin' Her") Snooky Pryor("Telephone Blues"), and Floyd Jones("Stockyard Blues"). These came from a host of small labels like Ora-Nelle, Tempo-Tone, Marvel, Planet, and Opera. These were mostly back-room operations, and the sound quality is less than stellar. Also included here are six cuts from the Aristocrat label by Sunnyland Slim and Muddy Waters. Aristocrat (later to become Chess Records)was a more professional operation than the others, so consequentially these sides have better sound than the rest. They are, however, duplicated on the MCA/Chess CD "Chess Blues: Aristocrat Of The Blues". All in all, a great release, well worth picking up. - by jonsarra (Toledo, OH)
