Pittsburgh's Favorite Oldies - At the Hop, Vol. 6 by Various Artists

Label: Itzy Records
Release Date: February 5, 1999
Recording Time: 128 minutes

This edition (this time a two-disc set) is dedicated to Pittsburgh's most famous disc jockey, Porky Chedwick. According to the liners, the song selection was culled almost exclusively from tunes that Chedwick either played on his show or at his famous record hops in the Pittsburgh area. As with the other entries in this series, the emphasis is far more on great R&B obscure classics rather than garden variety oldies based on mega sales. Must-haves on this volume include "Flatfoot Sam" by Oscar Wills, "Courtin' in a Cadillac" by Jerry McCain, "Hand Clappin'" by Red Prysock, "Slop Around" by Buddy Guy, "Bad Boy" by the Jive Bombers, "Safronia B" by Calvin Boze, "Tragic" by the Sheppards, "Roll Your Moneymaker" by Shakey Jake, "You Figure It Out" by Rosco Gordon, "Bald Head" by Roy Byrd, and "Goodnight My Love" by Jessie Belvin. A solid chunk of great early-'50s R&B, served up with a Pittsburgh flavor.
